Isomerism

In addition to forming long chains, the atoms making up a molecular formula are often arranged differently, forming isomers.

Structural isomerism

Structural isomers are molecules with the same molecular formula but with different structural arrangements of atoms.

The two structural isomers of C4H10 are shown below:

Chain isomerism: This is a type of structural isomerism in which the carbon skeleton is different. Butane and methylpropane are chain isomers of C4H10
