Charge and Energy in Circuits
Charge in Circuits
Electrons travel around a circuit > electricity. Each electron carries energy with it. Each electron has a negative charge
Electrical charge is measured in coulomb, C. The amount of electrical charge that moves in a circuit depends on the current flow and how long it flows for.
charge (coulomb, C) = current (ampere, A) × time (second, s)
Energy in Circuits
Energy
- Energy is the flow of energy around the circuit
- Measured in Joules
Voltage
- Voltage is the driving force that pushes electrons
- Symbol V
- Measured in Volts (electrical pressure)
For a given amount of electrical charge that moves, the amount of energy transformed increases as the potential difference (voltage) increases.
energy transformed (joule, J) = potential difference (volt, V) × charge (coulomb, C)
